Waxes from which the statue of ACM Sir Keith Park will be cast will be despatched to the foundry in the next couple of weeks; A six-metre mural portrait of Sir Keith has been erected on the highway-facing end of the HAC Hangar at the Thames Airfield. Our sculptor – Joanne Sullivan – has been very patient and continues to work on in the lead up to committing the waxes to the foundry. There is agreement between us that this step will not be taken until we gain the full funding to complete the casting process. To this end, yet another grant application has been submitted to Pub Charity Limited, who have been good to the project in the past.
Planning is well advanced for this year’s Battle of Britain Commemorations in Thames which will be held 11:00am Sunday 15th September at the Thames Airfield. The 15th September is the date universally recognised as the turning point in the Battle of Britain in 1940. As such this year, there are likely to be many other commemorative events scheduled for the same date.
